Background
Within the Transport and Mobility focus area, our goal is to design a product that supports cyclists with practical, energy-saving solutions. While many bicycle accessories already exist, charging mobile devices sustainably during rides remains an unmet need.
Objective
Develop a rechargeable backpack that captures energy from a bicycle’s motion via a dynamo, stores it in a battery bank, and allows users to charge devices (e.g., smartphones, laptops) both while cycling and afterward. The bag should be convenient, safe, sustainable, and affordable.


Concept
Three concepts were explored (front-mounted, rear panniers, wearable with cable). The chosen design is a front-mounted detachable backpack, attached via a custom locking mechanism to the bike’s stem, powered by a 6W dynamo. It functions both as a backpack and a charging station, offering a practical and sustainable solution for cyclists.
Expected Value
The rechargeable backpack combines mobility, renewable energy, and storage into one product. It promotes sustainable travel, supports modern device use, and fills a market gap for cyclists seeking affordable, eco-friendly charging solutions.
